I am a great connoisseur of wine and i simply love Porto Wine(or i can say Port). And if you love sweet wine, then you should try Porto wine.
Portuguese cuisine is well known for its rich, filling and flavored dishes. But what about wine?
Wine is believed to be the most traditional beverage of Portugal. There are plenty of wines like rose wine and vinho verde wines which are well-liked not only in Portuguese market but across the globe . Vinho verde is also termed as “Green wine”. Although it is called as green, but it is not green in color. Green wines are normally produced in north Portugal and are usually sparkling.
Being produced in Douro region, Port is a fortified wine that includes distinct flavor. Port can be served as a dessert wine.
The wine has a much richer and sweeter taste compared to other wines. The wine includes 20% alcohol with low acidity and tannin. Red varieties of grapes are the best grapes to make Porto wine. The recommended red grape varieties used in making Port includes donzelinho tinto, mourisco, bastardo, tinto cao, tinta roriz, touriga nacional, mourisco de semente, tinta da barca and touriga brasileira.
Port is produced in an unique way that it captures the fruit along with flavor of the riped grapes which possess extraordinary longevity. Porto wine is produced from the grapes which has been grown and processed in Douro region. The wine is then fortified by the addition of a neutral grape spirit termed as aguardente in order to stop the fermentation process, thus leaving behind the residual sugar in the wine. The wine is then bottled and kept for aging.
The wine got its name as “Port” during the late 17th century from the seaport city of Porto which is located at the mouth of the Douro River.
Always make sure to store the Port in a cool, not cold, and dry location as the light might spoil the Port. To enjoy the drink, you can serve the wine at the temperature of 15-29 degrees celsius.
Thus we saw that the port is a beverage which has its own unique idiosyncratic nature. So next time when you are buying some wine, make sure to try porto wine.
